Christmas Eve

The week before Christmas the kids and I went to Macy's to mail their Christmas letters. We go there every year. We like to go by every so often and see the Believe Meter go up, up, up as letters are mailed. I made photo copies of their letters. I like to have them for a keepsake.

Christmas Eve day was hectic. We were finishing up some last minute shopping. Dwight and I always shop for each other on Christmas Eve with whatever money we have left at that point. :) I also wanted a clean house Christmas Day, so we did some cleaning and laundry. In the evening the kids all dressed in their Christmas pajamas. In the past they have always opened one gift Christmas Eve and it is always Christmas jammies. This year they had their jammies from the Polar Express trip, so we had a couple of family gifts. We dressed Delilah in her Christmas outfit too. I couldn't get a good picture of her. She is too squirmy.

She was actually really good wearing her little hat though.
This year we don't have a fireplace in our rental. So Dwight put a fire place on the tv for us. He connected his play book to the tv. It crackled and popped and was really fun in the background.
Delilah and Gunnar are best friends.
Our family Christmas present was a movie night. The kids got 2 new movies. Mr. Popper's Penguins and Kung Fu Panda 2. We got a ton of candy and popcorn. We had never done stove top popcorn with the kiddos before. They loved it!!!
Of course we left a plate of goodies and a note for Santa. We know how much Santa loves Coca Cola. He actually got another one out from our refrigerator. We left carrots for the reindeer too. Savannah and Bear left notes for Santa.

Before the kids opened the gift on Christmas Eve we read the Christmas story from Luke 2. A few weeks ago I asked the kids what the true meaning of Christmas was. Bear answered and said that it was to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He then said our family prayer and proceeded to pray that we would get really great gifts for Christmas. :) At this age I believe it is a balance. Of course I want my kids to know why we celebrate Christmas, I want them to appreciate the life and death of our Savior. But, I don't think there is anything wrong with the wonderful, magical part of Christmas either.

Christmas day pictures to come tomorrow.
