I have been reading A Parent's Guide. It is a manual published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It's purpose is to help parents teach children the purpose of families and righteous intimacy appropriate for each stage of childhood and adolescence. It is a great tool for parents. It has reminded me of my sacred role of wife and mother. I am so thankful for the privilege and honor that I have of being a mother to my four beautiful children.
A few things that really hit home for me:
"While the child is growing, a nurturing, consoling, compassionate feeling develops between the mother and child that is not duplicated elsewhere. The child is literally flesh of her flesh, and the natural affection that exists between a creator and his creation exists in its strongest earthly form between a mother and child."
I love this statement. I always tell my kiddos that there is no one that loves them more than me. I think this is sufficient proof of that. :) They are the flesh of my flesh.
President David O McKay said: "The home is the first and most effective place for children to learn the lessons of life: truth, honor, virtue, self-control, the value of education, honest work, and the purpose and privilege of life. Nothing can take the place of home in rearing and teaching children, and no other success can compensate for failure in the home"
No pressure right?? :)
D&C 68:28 And they shall also teach their children to pray, and to walk uprightly before the Lord.
