Family scripture revamp

I think about two years ago, we made a commitment to do daily family scripture study. We have not been perfect, we have not done it every day and it has been a growing process for us. We started out reading a chapter a day, making the kids sit and listen and then trying to recap after so they would understand what was going on and maybe get something out of it. We were hoping they would just feel the spirit and maybe learn by osmosis or something. Recently though we have changed our approach. I found a book that my mom used with us when we were kids. It has pictures and kind of reads like a comic book. So I read from the Book of Mormon Stories book and then Dwight and Gracie take turns reading the from the Book of Mormon the scriptures that correlate. Now that Gracie can read it is more enjoyable for her. It has worked really well for us. The kids really like the pictures and I think they are starting to really learn the stories. We always sing a fun primary song to start and sing a song to close. We still do ring and round the rosies and all fall down for our family prayer. The kids are positive and feel the spirit. I hope that it will develop a habit of scripture study for them. It brings a nice spirit into our home.

That is awesome. I know that I felt so relieved when they had that leadership worldwide broadcast back in Feb. I remember one of the ladies saying how scripture study with little kids could be looking at a scripture picture and talking about it. I was so relieved. I didn't feel like I was doing sufficient scripture time with my kids if we weren't reading for at least 10 min. It was more torture for them than anything. As they get older we will read more. For now we do what we can to keep the peace.
