Getting ready for school/ Family Home Evening

It has been a huge decision for me to send my kids to school. Part of the reason we wanted to move out of Perris was because we couldn't send our kids to school there. So, coming to Gilbert which is known for its good schools was really exciting for us. I still struggled a little making the decision whether I would send them or not. After much prayer and fasting, I decided to send them to school. We went to "meet the teacher" last week and all their teachers seem so nice. The school is fairly new and their classrooms are great. Each class has 4 computers and these cool white boards called Smart Boards I think, that is like a computer kind of that you can watch movies on and project things and write on with special pens. So, last night for family home evening I gave a lesson on Choosing the Right. (I was thinking that I would start posting my family home evening lessons and ideas, hoping that maybe some of you will send me any ideas you might have too.)

Attention Activity: Follow the Leader take turns being the leader and following the leader as they run, skip, and jump

Lesson: based from Gospel Principles "Freedom to Choose"pg 17 and from Primary lesson manual 2 Choose the Right lesson 2
God tells us through his prophets that we are free to choose between GOOD and EVIL. We may choose eternal life by following Jesus Christ. We can also choose captivity by following Satan.When we choose to do right things it makes Heavenly Father and our parents happy. When you do some Right things it makes it easier to do MORE right things. When we live according to God's plan for us we grow in faith, power, knowledge, and all other good things.If we keep the commandments and make right choices we will become like Him.

Scripture: 2 Nephi 31:10 10 And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father?

Question: How do we follow Jesus? We follow Jesus when we keep the commandments and do the things he would do.

Discussion: We make choices everyday, what are some good choices that we can make in our daily lives? Display pictures of kids making good choices. I found lots of clipart pictures on www.mormonshare.com prayer, going to church, chores, being kind, etc....
