Getting in the school groove

We are in our third week of school. It is flying by already. The kids are doing great and we are really enjoying school at home. We start our school day around 8:30. We always start with a song, prayer, reading scriptures, and watching a short Book of Mormon video. We also practice days of the weeks, months of the year, money, and say the pledge of allegiance. We go over our schedule for the day and make sure we know what's going on. The girls are great at working independently. We have to finish about 3% of our curriculum in each subject per week to stay on track. The girls know what percentage they need to get to by the end of the week and choose what to work on. They often will do all of one subject in a day and move on to another subject the next day. I help them with math, writing, and grammar sometimes. The boys take turn working with me. They will work on handwriting or play an educational game while I work with one or the other. They aren't allowed to watch tv during school time. If they have a break they finish their chores and then play a game or color. Art, is definitely the favorite subject in our house. Someone paints every single day. :) The Ikea easel has come in very handy. I'm so thankful for the opportunity that I have to spend my days with my children in our home. I love watching them learn. It is crazy busy and can be stressful sometimes, but it is so worth it. The kids often will say how thankful they are to home school in their prayers. :) It melts me and makes me such a happy mommy. It just works for our family.
The cutest 6 year old and his Mickey Mouse portrait. :)
